MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The search continues for a school superintendent for the City of Monroe.

A search committee met Tuesday morning to set a timeline for the search. Board members hope to have a school leader in place by June 30th of next year.

The committee discussed guidelines for candidates, deciding a doctorates degree won't be mandatory qualification. Board President Verbon Muhammad says this search will be different from past superintendent searches.

"At the end of the day we want the Monroe community involved. So that way those who say we are not looking within, we'll have a community base saying lets look within this time." said Muhammad.

The committee members also talked about offering the selected superintendent a one year contract, rather than the previous 3-year contract.
