Blue Star Mothers

RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - When our military men and women return from fighting overseas, one local group is there every step of the way, to provide support and comfort to the military families.

Blue Star Mothers is an organization who's motto is "mother's honoring their military children."

Blue Star Mothers' President Joann Barr says, "it gives you somebody to connect to, somebody that more than likely has gone through what you're going through, they feel your pain they share in your joy."

While a group like Blue Star Mother's is important to family members who have loved ones deployed, it's also important for the men and women fighting overseas and here at home.

The mothers do anything they can to help from collect items and put together care packages to send to those who are deployed to visiting the veterans home and bring them goodies.

They also help welcome home solider's who return from deployment and mourn those who make the ultimate sacrifice.

Member, Kathy Lowery says groups like this one are very important, "nobody will really know until you've been there and all these ladies have been there and they are the best ones to help you so they can hold your hand and help you along the way."

The Blue Star Mothers meet the second Tuesday of every month at the VRW Post in Ruston.

The group says anyone is welcomed to join, even if you don't have a child in the military.
