MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - You may want to get your best running shoes ready because the yearly Race for the Cure in Monroe is only days away. Millions are hoping to find the cure to cancer. Saturday, volunteers out at Pecanland mall got the chance to sign people up for the yearly race happening next weekend. The event kicks off this upcoming Saturday and already many are putting their best foot forward ready to run for a good cause.
"We already got over 3,200 people registered. So we really anticipate a really strong turnout for next Saturday. It's going to be the place to be," Volunteer Meg Moore said.
"ULM will be hosting the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, our main rival, and at that game, we're going to be holding a breast cancer awareness game which we'll be partnering with Susan G Komen, and we are selling $10 general admission tickets where a portion of the proceeds are going to Susan G Komen," ULM ticking Office worker Josh Tolleson said.
That ULM match against the University of Louisiana Lafayette is a "pink out" football game. Volunteers say most of the money raised will stay in our area to help fight off breast cancer.
