MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - With stakes driving into the ground and plenty of trailers popping up, some Warhawk faithful are already getting started tailgating for the Baylor game, making "The Grove" near Malone Stadium their new neighborhood.

One of those fans is the "Old Tailgater" himself, the Unofficial Mayor of "The Grove," Buddy Embanato.

"I've been here since last night. I've been here since Wednesday," Embanato said. "My brother-in-law and I and sister started tailgating by accident, really. We have three tailgate spots right here. All of us are together and been together now form, well, since '78, '79."

Embanato was a Warhawk himself back in 1961.

While his trailer comes tricked out with a retractable ice chest and a built-in big screen, this man simply comes with a steady spatula and a love for the Warhawks inside.

"Sat on the bench on the basketball team. Played a little tennis," he said. "The character of our coach and staff, it just goes right down to the kids."

It's a love that burns brighter with ULM football carving out its own slice of national T.V. Friday against Baylor.

"it just amazes me!" said Embanato. "Brings tears to my eyes, I'm so happy!"

Even though he's too old to suit up with his favorite team, he'll settle for cooking up some briskets for his fellow fans.

"I'm ready," Embanato said. "I mean, I'm 69 but I'll tell you what, I'd like to go out there and knock some heads!"
