Arrest: Bastrop High School Fire

BASTROP, La. (KNOE 8 News) - One suspect is now in custody regarding an arson fire at Bastrop High School.

In a story first reported Wednesday night, the first arrest has been made in Morehouse Parish. The suspect is a 16 year old student at Bastrop High School and no name is being released. The suspect is being charged with two counts aggravated arson. Bastrop Police identified the teenager as the person they charged with an arson fire at a local laundromat in August. The suspect is being held at the Green Oaks Detention Center and his name is being withheld.

The State Fire Marshal confirmed that it was an arson fire and is currently under investigation.

Bastrop Fire Chief Eric Montgomery says that two fires were started at Bastrop High School. One was set in a trash can in the bathroom, but was put out with no damage. The second fire was started in the old gymnasium in a storage closet.

There were no injuries and the damage was contained within the storage closet.
