ULM Police Unveil Big Plan for Game Traffic

Posted: Updated:

Monroe, La. (KNOE 8 News) - ULM's Malone Stadium can house more than 30,000 Warhawk faithful and that's not even counting the green and gold-clad Baylor fans.

ULM Police are preparing for a traffic nightmare.

"There's a lot of interest around the parish, the state and certainly the city," ULm Chief of Police, Larry Ellerman, said.

On this historic night, officers are gearing up for record-smashing crowds.

But they have a plan.

It starts by uniting officers from the ULM, Monroe and West Monroe Police Departments, as well as the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.

"Upwards of 50 officers total," Ellerman said.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, all roads that lead to ULM become one-way and parking will spread everywhere.

"Most of the parking is on the east side of the Bayou," said Ellerman. "We'll divert them and park them on the west side of the Bayou and some of our academic areas. It's not a bad walk across the Bayou to the stadium."

This plan has been revised multiple times and is coming together, all to keep both Warhawks and Bears safe for the big game.

"Beat Baylor," Ellerman said. "Got to beat Baylor."
