Bash on the Bayou: KNOE 8 News and KNOE 8 Sports cover everything to do with the ULM v Baylor game happening September 21th.
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - ULM will play their first home game Friday against Baylor and the hype is bringing benefits to the university and the community.
Non-profit Arco helps those with developmental disabilities and their organization is getting a financial boost thanks to ULM. Arco was given 25 hundred football tickets to the war hawks' first home game. "I'm very proud to announce we did sell out, that means the agency will get 30% of those proceeds and we are so proud to take part in this event." said Missy Fleming, ARCO's resource development director.
Area businesses helped arco sell out by purchasing dozens of tickets for their employees. Linda O'Neal of community trust bank stopped by Arco to snatch up the last remaining tickets. "We believe in reaching out in to the community and we like to support our community." said O'Neal.
Doug Pederson inspired the partnership. He was ULM's all time great quarterback, current Philadelphia eagles quarterback coach and is also Arco's spokesperson. "We just started thinking, what a great organization, Doug is one of our own...what a natural tie in for both ARCO and ULM." said Athletic Director Bobby Staub. Staub says the buzz surrounding the game has made for a busy week for his staff. Phones have been ringing off the hook and each day there is a line to purchase tickets. But the athletic director says he wouldn't have it any other way.
"We ask our kids and our staff to seize the moment, we're asking the community to put their best foot forward in front of a national televised audience." said Staub.
The game will be nationally televised by ESPN. Kick off is set for 7 o'clock on Friday.
