OUACHITA PARISH (KNOE 8 News) - At the CenturyLink headquarters in Monroe on Tuesday, the North Louisiana Economic Partnership hosted their regional caravan but the biggest news is happening out there in your businesses and your workplaces.
The partnership gave their State of Economic Development address for North Louisiana, declaring what they claim to be a robust future for the area with local businesses about to get a lot more crowded.
"We have a pipeline right now of 74 different entities that are looking to come in to North Louisiana or grow and expand North Louisiana," Partnership Chairman, Todd Perry, said.
It's the biggest pipeline the partnership has ever seen.
That could translate into a maximum of more than 8,000 new jobs and more than $2 billion of investment in North Louisiana.
While no business names are being released, these are businesses from all over the market.
"The manufacturing world to service world to even food and restaurant world, so we see all types," Perry said.
But the businesses and jobs aren't here yet.
They're going to need millions of acres to put down on and a lack of buildings and sites in the area could be a major obstacle.
"Make sure that we've got good infrastructure," Monroe Mayor, Jamie Mayo, said. "You have to position yourself to be in a position to be able to offer incentives to those prospects."
If those obstacles can be overcome, all of those businesses and jobs could be on our doorstep.
Both leaders with the partnership and local officials are saying this potential pipeline is giving Monroe a bright future.
Monroe has plans to enhance sites for these businesses.
They will be looking at the Charleston Industrial Park on Highway 165 South.
They'll also take a look at Millhaven North and South on Interstate 20.
