MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Run Louisiana is claiming "Sunday Runday" in Monroe.
"Claim Your Journey brings awareness to inactivity," says Tara Knight of Run Louisiana, "to promote running as a first choice activity for families to have a healthy lifestyle."
At locations across the state, runners meet every Sunday evening and start their 3 mile journey.
"Our first week we had nearly 70 runners which is huge, the only other part of the state that has that is Baton Rouge where it originated, so we're super excited to have that many runners on our first Sunday Runday," says Knight.
Participants aren't just getting fit, they have the chance to win new gear.
"We have raffles and drawings each week. We try to bring new stuff. We have catering done each week. We're getting sponsors," Knight says.
William Rogers, Sunday Runday sponsor and owner of Fit Right Active, says even first time runners shouldn't hesitate to join the movement.
"Once they come and they're in a just a really supportive kind of community, then they realize they can probably do more than they think, and they also realize that it's not intimidating. You come out, you go at your pace...if that's a walk, if that's a run, whatever it is," says Rogers.
