MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - More than one hundred thousand citizens are registered to vote in Ouachita Parish but they don't all vote.
"Voter turn out is always a problem, that's why we see so many organizations engaged in voter turn out," says Eva Dyann Wilson of Monroe.
Eva Wilson is with one of those organizations - the Southside Community Involvement Association.
"Many people do voter registration, and that's the easy part, but getting folks to actually go and vote, to turn out to the polls, is a real challenge," says Wilson.
For the 2008 presidential election, only 66% of registered Ouachita Parish citizens voted. Wilson and others in the association are trying to change that.
"We're doing a voter education piece. Well have representatives from the voter registrar's office here who will talk to folks not only about registering, but about the many different opportunities they have to vote," says Wilson.
