MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Victor Cascio was pillar of Monroe for most of his life and a member of the KNOE family. Thursday, the community is remembering Victor Cascio because he touched the lives of many who are now broken hearted over his passing. "The entire community has lost a valuable member." said Kay Katz.
"It is like someone turned out a light here in Monroe." said Ray Armstrong, a friend of the Cascio family for years. Victor owned and operated iconic eatery "the chateau" restaurant. The landmark restaurant served generations here at home, and celebrities including Elvis Presley and Liberace, plus all Louisiana governors since the 1960's.
"We'd always go to his restaurant and you'd always see someone in Monroe there at one time or another." said Robert Kostelka, a good friend of Victor's father Joe and uncle Tony.
Whether hosting a KNOE TV segment about the holidays or weekend plans or writing for the local paper, Victor always knew how to entertain. Friends say he will be remembered most for his warm smile and welcoming personality. "He always made you feel like you had something special and I think he was known for that, for making everyone feel like they had their own piece and part of the community." said Tori Mortenson, whose friends worked their way through college at the Chateau.
"He was just very personal to everyone he met and welcomed everybody there, it's a special feeling that you get nowhere else in the world." said Armstrong. Victor leaves behind a legacy and lasting memories that many say they will never forget. "There were so many things that he did and he and his family have worked to make Monroe a better place." said Katz.
"I don't know anything else to do but enjoy people." Victor had told KNOE in an interview about the Chateau closing in February of 2012.
Private funeral plans have been made by Cascio's family at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.
