MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Shoppers get ready, Monroe's downtown RiverMarket will open in a month from now. The project has been two years in the making and construction is nearly complete.

The market will feature a different weekly theme and be filled with vendors offering everything from food to crafts. "We're also going to have entertainment and just different events of community interest. So we want this to be a gathering spot, not only for locals but also for out of towners. We really want this to be a destination and that's what we're planning for." said RiverMarket manager Adrienne LaFrance.

"It's been a tremendous amount of work we could not have done it without a lot of volunteers and city staff and just a lot of people involved making this happen. It may look like a simple task but it's not. It's going to be great for our area and great for downtown." said downtown economic development director Myra Gatling.

The opening date is set for October 13th at 9 a.m. The theme for the opening weekend will be art, food, and wine.
