WEST MONROE ( KNOE 8 News) - There were ceremonies and a luncheon on September 11th to honor first responders for everything they do, but they say they are just doing their job.

The City of Monroe held a memorial observance to remember the more than 2,000 lives that were lost and give tribute to the first responders in our area for what they do on a daily basis.

The colors were presented as the National Anthem was sung, and the American Flag was raised to half staff.

AmeriCorps and the West Monroe Chamber of Commerce also held the 1st annual special luncheon for all Ouachita Parish First Responders; giving them time to spend together.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff, Jay Russell says they are very appreciative of what the community does,"it's something that being in law enforcement is very humbling it's a career and career path that is very rewarding in itself also."
