RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Reverend C. L. Bryant served as the president of an NAACP chapter in Garland,Texas. But recently, Bryant has been on the national stage for the Tea Party Movement. And he's speaking out in our area about his views on some of our lawmakers at the federal and state level.

"It is the entire program of progressiveness that has poisoned the mind of our sons and daughters," Bryant said,"We see the crises that's going on in this country, not to blame President Obama for all of it, it was President Bush that started the ball rolling."

Reverend Bryant would like to see a different set of political leaders in office. And so do the dozens who turned out to the Ruston country club for this Tea Party rally.

"What's happening?" One Tea Partier shouted.

Bryant, with the same question in mind feels that he has an answer.

"The Tea Party has always been about less government interference, less taxes in our lives and more fiscal responsibility from the people elected to office,"Bryant said.

As a black conservative in the national spotlight, the speaker feels he has raised eyebrows among the black community that typically leans liberal and Democrat.

"The reason why I left the NAACP is not really because I left them. Their ideas and their policies left me."

Outside the movement, Bryant also is advocating for several conservative social issues, like pro-life. And his supporters agree.

"It's against the word of God, it's against the core values of Christians and Christians white and black need to stand up against this type of genocide," Bryant said.

Bryant also has a film that has sparked debate called, "Runaway Slave", surrounding what he says is the black community going from physical slavery to slavery of the mind.
