WEST MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A West Monroe couple have been arrested for shoplifting and child desertion.
According to police the couple, Courtney Barnes and Danta Dewayne Payton, shoplifted almost $3,000 from the West Monroe Walmart. And to add to the crime, police say that the couple had left two children, aged 5 and 6, in the car outside the store while during the crime they're being charged with.
According to the police report Cortney Barnes was stopped by police because she was spotted driving a vehicle that matched the one involved in the incident.
The police say that Barnes told them that she and her boyfriend shoplifted because they needed money to pay their rent.
