WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The 3rd Annual Run for Kids Sake was held at Kiroli Park Saturday to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Louisiana.

"It's the only fundraiser that we do, all the money that we raise stays here to help children in our region," says Director Jane Brandon, "So we are very excited to have such a good turn out even though the weather was awful."

Dozens of experienced and first time runners joined efforts - in the rain - to support the local chapter of the organization. Participants as young as 14 years old to runners in the Senior category won prizes for completing the race. There was also a silent auction for a beach condo vacation.

The Northeast Louisiana chapter serves more than 200 pairs of big and little brothers and sisters from Ouachita, Lincoln, Morehouse, Richland and Franklin parishes. Children in the program range from 9 to 18 years old, and are always looking for mentors.

"You need to be someone who, of course, loves children. Someone who can be very committed and very dependable in working and meeting with your child. You just need to give a few hours each month to work with your child, and be a 'big' friend to a child," says Brandon.
