The cost of Isaac

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The governor's office is reporting that Louisiana state agencies, thus far, have spent more than $100 million preparing for and responding to Hurricane Isaac.

This latest tally was $116 million, and that cost was expected to continue rising. That figure includes the price tags for mobilizing the National Guard, setting up and supplying shelters, bringing food and water to damaged parishes and paying state employee for storm response.

FEMA was expected to cover at least 75 percent of the cost, leaving the state with a $29 million bill so far. The governor's Division of Administration has said that a state emergency response fund will cover more than $16 million of the state's costs.

Governor Jindal has also asked the federal government to pick up more of the storm's cost.
