MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Many Northeast Louisianians, whether belonging to the red or blue party, are not only representing our area, but also contributing by serving in different roles at the Republican and Democrat conventions.

Last week, while most students at West Monroe High School were getting acclimated to a new school year, 17 year old Hamilton Winters was in Tampa, Florida working as a page at the Republican National Convention. He was one of two students chosen as pages to represent the bayou state. "It was a real rewarding to not only meet good friends, but also meet new people and see celebrities at the convention." said Hamilton Winters.

His page duties involved making thousands of handmade signs, gathering paper work, and rubbing elbows with key republican political players. Winters says the GOP's energy has left him hopeful, come November.

"so I think I came home with the realization of, we've got a chance, we've got a much better chance than I thought we did" said Winters.

Over to the other side of the political spectrum, Democrats spent Monday prepping for their convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, where seven NELA Louisiana delegates will be seated in the audience. They range from State Representative, to attorneys, small business owners and even a school board member. Of those, Attorney Charles Kincade and his wife Mary Kincade are in attendance.  "Well I think that is what our democracy is based on, average people getting involved." said Charles Kincade.

And the attorney says although the convention has yet to begin, the positive energy is through the roof. "Everyone is excited. Everyone looks at this as a jumping off point to push hard for the campaign." said Kincade. Both camps feel their presidential candidate is the best for Louisiana, but ultimately the voters will decide in November.
