MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- A local teen was one of two selected to represent the bayou state at the Republican Convention. 17 year old Hamilton Winters is the student body president of West Monroe High with a love for politics.

Part of his page duties involved making thousands of handmade signs, gathering paper work, and rubbing elbows with key players in the republican party. Winters says he's bringing home valuable lessons from the experience.

"I went to the convention kind of doubtful, that I guess we'd win battle ground states and win the electoral vote and win the election. After seeing how much the people of Tampa care about my country and how much the other pages do and how patriotic everyone was, the energy in the room was probably the biggest factor in the determining of mine that we actually do have a chance." he said.

Winters says he has ambitions to one day serve the people of north east Louisiana in a political role.
