Thousands sleeping in the dark Thursday night

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Dozens in an apartment complex, on South Second Street and Coleman Avenue in West Monroe, are sleeping in the dark.

"Knocked out all the power. It's like trees falling from everywhere, hitting down on these posts and everything, knocking all the power out," one resident said.

The branches have closed off this intersection. Twisted in the mess are power lines. West Monroe police are keeping these barricades to keep cars away from the pile.

"It's blocking everything. What about an emergency. What if I need help?" another residents said.

Although power may not be on crews are working to restore electricity. Entergy workers have installed several new wooden poles to hold wires, but families with no air conditioner or hot food believe crews aren't moving fast enough.

"My power has been off since 3 o'clock this (Thursday) morning and I'm disabled and I don't know what I'm going to do," one man said.

"They better hurry up and get them lights fixed. My boy Dwayne Wilfred, he got one leg. And they're taking all this time to get this stuff up," the man's nephew said.

Tropical Storm Isaac left about 27,000 people in the dark at one time in Northeast Louisiana. That the number has significantly dropped, but these guys - who are still powerless - are hoping for one thing only, electricity.
