South Monroe community spared from flooding

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Low lying areas in South Monroe are very prone to flooding, but it seems the community has been spared that hassle with Tropical Storm Isaac.

Typically, the streets in the southern part of the City of Monroe have been known to flood after heavy rains. And that's why, although elderly in age, Abe Williams spent hours carrying sand bags back and forth to fortify his home. But even as heavy rains battered the area for hours,
serious flooding was not evident around his neighborhood.

"Maybe they have better drainage than what they had before, hopefully. If it backs up on us then we have another problem." said Williams. Still, while Isaac has spared Williams' home thus far, Hurricane season isn't over yet, but for now he's only hoping for the best. "Hopefully you know, it just passes over and if we're blessed, everything will work out in our favor." said Williams, he also added that  for future storm prep, he may need to work on one thing to make hauling sand bags around easier. "More muscles, that's what I need." said Williams with a Chuckle.

To keep your ditches from flooding, remember to keep them free of trash and debris.
