Sign thief strikes Union Parish

UNION PARISH, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Thieves have been hitting the roads in Union Parish, making off with official road signs.

Union Parish Sheriff Bob Buckley says the thefts in the eastern portion of the parish could hamper emergency response to citizens.

The sheriff said in the last seven weeks some 31 signs have been taken.

"Taking these signs could jeopardize the lives of our citizens if they call for emergency help," Buckley said. "Emergency responders like deputies or an ambulance need these signs. It could mean life or death in an emergency situation."

A list of locations where signs taken are: Taylor Loop, Paron Loop (2 times), King Johnson Rd., Lynn Edwards Rd., Old Junction Rd., Price Rd., Blackbird Rd. (2 times), Mann Rd., Ford Rd., Hooker Hole Rd. (2 times), School Board Rd., Serenity Loop, Dogwood Rd., Lem Rd., Squires Rd., Old Haile Rd., Emerson Rd., Cedar Rd., Pace Brown Rd., Hudson Rd., Holmesville Rd., Silmon Rd., Dean Church Rd., Alabama Landing Rd., Townsville Rd., Huttig Rd., Van Roach Rd.,  and Laster Rd.

If you have any information concerning the disappearance of these signs or their current location, call Crime Stoppers of Union Parish at 318-368-9679. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for any information that leads to a felony arrest and/or grand jury indictment. You do not have to give your name or appear in court.
