MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Many of you may be wondering about the outdoor animals and zoo animals. Not to worry, there are plans for them as well.

Workers at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo have been busy storm proofing the animal habitats. Storm drains and ditches have been cleaned out, threatening limbs and trees have been removed and animals that could pose a risk to the public have been secured. Arrangements are also being made for animals in low lying areas.

"For example we have some young deer in a pen that we really can't move them especially with the storm coming, but we've put in hay bale so if the water even comes up a couple of inches, they can get on top of the hay bales and be comfortable and not be in standing water during the storm." said Zoo Director Joe Clawson.

The only animals being moved inside for the hurricane are large land turtles.
