Comcast gears up for Isaac

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Comcast says its crisis teams are taking preliminary steps to handle any damage the hurricane might cause.

"We're ready." said Frances Smith, Comcast South Area Director of Government Affairs. "We have crews on standby, backup fuel plans, and additional generators to support our system during power outages and minimize service interruption to our customers. We have taken steps to ensure we are best equipped to respond to any impact that may arise from the storm, while keeping the safety of our employees a top priority."

"Our managers and supervisors have done an incredible job planning and preparing their teams for what might lie ahead of us. Their input and experience is invaluable to the process," she added.

"The public should keep in mind that a high percentage of the cable outages that occur during the passage of a storm of this nature are due to the loss of commercial power. In most cases, once the electricity comes back on – so does the cable system," said Smith. "But we are also subject to consistent winds bringing down cable drops, trees falling on our lines, or other issues. The key is to be prepared for whatever might happen and to coordinate with other utilities and emergency agencies to make repairs as quickly as possible."

"We do ask for patience from our customers scheduled for new installations," added Smith. "We are postponing that work to have every member of our field personnel available for repairs."
