MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Keeping a close eye on tropic Isaac, many are tracking a tropical storm in the Atlantic and emergency officials want to make sure you are prepared for this storm season.

Hurricane or not, Caldwell Parish Sheriff and Director of homeland security say they're ready for whatever happens. "We're going to try and stay on top of it and be prepared for anything." said Steve May. Caldwell Parish along with other areas in the Ark-La-Miss are historically far enough away from the coast to be spared the direct effects of most large storms.

However, KNOE 8's weather forecaster Larry Rhymes says the area could still deal with flooding, strong winds and even tornadoes spawned by any possible land falling storms. "Hurricanes and even tropical storms can cover a wide area, anywhere from probably 100-200 miles out from the center of some of these storms." said Rhymes.

Caldwell Parish Sheriff Steve May says one of the parish's biggest problems after storms are downed trees. "We try to stay prepared, we keep our saws, four wheelers, all ready to go."  said Sheriff May. Homeland Security Director for Caldwell Parish, Dale Powell, urges families to create an emergency plan and build a kit. "You need to have water and food of course, it needs to be checked regularly and you need to have flashlights." said Powell.

"Obviously as the storm continues to change, that causes changes in the forecast, over the next several days." said Rhymes.
