COLUMBIA, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A former Caldwell Parish band teacher is accused of a sexual relationship with a then band student.

Caldwell Parish high school's band teacher has resigned and according to one parent it's because he had inappropriate relations with a student. According to the Spartan Band's Facebook page, the teacher in question was band director of the year, but suddenly resigned.

Parent Greg Parker says he quit because of a police report filed against the former band director, alleging misconduct with Parker's daughter. The step dad didn't want to appear on camera but told us he doesn't want this to go away. "I just don't want anything swept under the rug. It's a wrong thing that happened and I want to see some justice on it." said Greg Parker.

In the statement the former high school band student tells police: "Yes, there were times he made advances. On Monday band practices he would bring me a coke and I would go get it. He would follow and either kiss me on the hand, cheek, or lips."

"I mean it makes me furious, you're hurt that a teacher would do something like this." said Parker, he says he has collected texts and Facebook messages between the two, and he learned from the victim, that the teacher gave his step daughter alcohol and engaged in sexual activity. "If what my daughter is telling me is true, that's not a mistake that's a crime." said the distraught parent. The victim is 18 years old, but there is a state law making it illegal for a teacher to have a sexual relationship with a student. Parents and students we spoke to at the high school say they are saddened by the allegations. "You know he's a really good guy. I just hate that all this happened" said parent Kathy Martin.

The superintendent couldn't be reached and the school board president says he has no comment. The sheriff and district attorney's office say they are investigating the situation.
