La. unemployment continues to rise slowly

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - In July the unemployment rate here in Louisiana eased up from 7.5 percent, to 7.6 percent, the third month in a row it has crept up.

Louisiana's unemployment rate ticked up for the third straight month in July, amid signs of a stalling economy. A year ago, the unemployment rate here in Louisiana was 7.3%.

The new numbers were released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The number of unemployed in Louisiana during July moved from 155,000 in June to just below 158,000.

The one positive in all this--Louisiana's jobless rate has remained below the national average throughout.
