FRANKLIN PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Two brothers locked up for armed robbery are back behind bars. The pair escaped from the Franklin parish detention center yesterday and after an overnight search, they were caught.
It was here at the Franklin parish detention center where two inmates escaped yesterday. They were eventually found, but it's how they got out that's concerning neighbors.
Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb tells KNOE 8 News, brothers 25 year old Michael James Robair and 22 year old Michael Lawrence Robair, both escaped during lunch on Tuesday by walking out an exterior door. Cobb says they left undetected because they mingled in with jail trustees.
"I know the trustees had to know that someone walked out that wasn't supposed to walk out." said Floyda Hicks, who lives in the closest house to the detention center and although she has questions the details of the jail break, the actual escape doesn't make her feel unsafe.
"I was confident that they would be caught and I wasn't afraid." said Hicks. She says living near the center has never made her in danger, in fact she voted for the prison to be built. "I feel just as safe here as anybody else in their home." she added.
But a few roads down, neighbor Sharon Rena Newton says the escape made her feel uneasy and says after Tuesday's events, the center's security should be looked at. "I know our sheriff and warden do a really good job but they can't be everywhere 24/7. But maybe it should be looked at with the employees that they have in position. I really don't know." said Newton.
"I'm sure Sheriff Cobb and the warden will come up with something to fix the problem." said Hicks. Nobody inside the detention center had permission to speak to us on camera.
Both men will face additional charges in connection to their escape.
