Lake Providence dredging in progress

Posted: Updated:

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The dredging of the Lake Providence Port is underway and expected to continue all month.

A dredging vessel called "The Butcher" is hacking away at the underwater sand built up in the main channel of the port. The silt is being pumped into the Mississippi River with hopes to be guided down stream by the current.

Reynold Minsky of 5th Levee District says "the dredging process is slow," and that it's expected to continue for at least another three weeks.
