Gas continues rising

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Gas prices nation-wide continue to climb over the past week, averaging roughly a penny a day. The good news is that Louisiana isn't seeing quite as much movement, rising only 5.1¢ this past week.

Over the past month, we've seen prices in Louisiana rise 34.3¢ a gallon in just the past month, however, putting us at 3.50 a gallon average as of yesterday. Nationally, the average is $3.67 a gallon.

Including the change in gas prices in Louisiana during the past week, prices yesterday were 4.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago. The national average has increased 24.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 5.7 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

Most of the upswing, especially in the Midwest and far west, is being attributed to the refinery problems that broke out last week.

If there's any good news in all of this, it's that driving season will end after Labor Day (Sept. 3) and the EPA is expected to ease up on gasoline mandates a bit about the same time, so we should see an easing of prices once again in the early Fall.
