Survivors' Celebration Luncheon

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Bayou Desiard Country Club was "pinked out" for the annual Survivors' Celebration Luncheon.

Women from across Louisiana gathered to celebrate their successful fights against breast cancer. Susan G. Komen of Northeast-Central Louisiana hosted Saturday's event that allowed survivors to share their stories with each other. One inspiring story was that of mother-daughter duo, Brandi and Brooke Thomisee.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago," said Brandi Thomisee, "and I'm also a Girl Scouts leader and I didn't quit doing my Girl Scouts the whole entire time. They helped me get through it."

Survivors were also able to participate in raffles, shop from local vendors, and even compete for the best decorated bra. Events chair, Lacy McCarthy, says she proud of the luncheon's success, but the large audience is bittersweet.

"It's always a big turn out, unfortunately, because that tells you how many breast cancer victims we've got in our area," says McCarthy.

The Board of Directors is very excited to share news with survivors about upcoming events in Monroe, including the Race for the Cure at Forsythe Park on September 29th, 2012.
