MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The first general manager of KNOE Paul Goldman celebrated his 100th birthday Friday. Mr. Goldman was born on this day in 1912. He began his 50 year career in Atlanta, where he opened the very first radio station. In 1951, Goldman started at KNOE in radio, he then became the very first general manager of KNOE TV in 1953, just in time for the first broadcast.
He retired in 1978 and says a lot has changed in broadcast between then and now. "Well the biggest change is time spent on programming versus commercials, back then we only did three one minute commercials in a 30 minute program." Paul Goldman told KNOE 8 News reporter Victoria Shirley.
Today, you do about 20 minutes of programming and 20 minutes of commercials. That's the biggest change." said Paul Goldman.
Paul Goldman's family has a huge birthday bash planned for tomorrow. Happy birthday Mr. Goldman and thanks for all you did for KNOE-TV.
