EA Conway Funding Cuts

Posted: Updated:

MONROE. La. (KINOE 8 News) - EA Conway, Monroe's only public hospital will be facing an $8.5 million in cuts.

This has many patients wondering where they'll go for medical care.

Plans have been in the works for a few weeks now to determine which departments may see cuts.

The announcement came down Thursday around noon, and while one department the OBGYN will remain open without any cuts.

The emergency department wasn't so lucky.

Hospital administrator, at EA Conway Aryon McGuire says there will be reductions in the number of beds in the Emergency Department, ICU, and Med-Surge.

ERwill be losing 4 beds, ICU will be losing 6, and Med-Surge will lose 12 beds, leaving 120 staffed beds

There will also be 30 positions facing lay-offs, McGuire says he doesn't expect these cuts to affect the patients.

McGuire says,"those are being sized down by to reflect our current actual census levels so based on that we don't expect this to have a negative impact on the type of patient care we deliver."

McGuire told us it should take 6 to 8 weeks to phase the changes into effect, but they are trying to make the changes as soon as possible.
