MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - We all know the economy is in bad shape, and now local universities are feeling the heat.

Since July 1st 2011 University of Louisiana at Monroe's total operating budget has decrease 9.1% which amounts to over 7 million dollars.

ULM's president Dr. Nick Bruno says the first step taken to handle the cuts were to terminate 8 low enrolled minors after this academic year.

Second the administrative department head positions were reduced from 18 to 7.

Dr. Bruno says the bottom line is the impact is on the personal.

ULM student Jameson Johns says a lot of students are worried, "those who are involved and those who work with the administration know that ULM is what it is because of the people, ULM's people the faculty and staff make this great university what it is so those of us involved and orientation staff we know that ULM is going to be fine."

The Graphic Services which has operated on ULM for over 32 years was also closed last week.
