GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Property owners from rural Louisiana met at Grambling State University for "The Big Event."
Farmers, ranchers, and land owners gathered with their questions in hand for group discussions with property experts.
"This is an event of community representatives and community interested people who want to know about services that the government and other entities can provide to them," says State Rural Development Director Clarence Hawkins, "We are from the government and we are here to help them."
USDA agencies like the Natural Resources Conservation spoke on issues facing our environment, while the Trailblazer organization provided information about water quality. Non-government employees were also asked to speak at the big event like Attorney Paul Spillers of Monroe.
"I was able to share with some land owners some common problems and land ownership issues," says Spillers.
University President, Dr. Frank Pogue, was impressed by the attendance for The Big Event and the number of questions property owners have. Pogue was so impressed that he is now considering adding it into Grambling classrooms.
"What we are looking at now, is a way to make it interdisciplinary," says President Pogue, "so you can have them in different academic areas."
President Pogue says this forum will not be a one-time event. He hopes to hold The Big Event for many years to come.
