RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Local hero Joseph P. Fitzmorris was laid to rest in his hometown.

Navy Aircrewman Second Class J. P. Fitzmorris was among the fatalities in a helicopter crash last month in Oman. The Ruston native was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, loved to fish and hunt, and was loved by all.

That love was shown today as hundreds of friends, neighbors, and even strangers, gather to support the Fitzmorris family.

Larry Vaughn of the Louisiana Motorcycle Ministries rode alongside the Patriot Guard to honor the fallen hero.

"They fight for our freedom, and it's the very least that we can do to come and support their families," says Vaughn, "show the guys, the military, the ones that are really putting themselves in harms way, show them that we do support them and everything that they do, so we can have this freedom in America."

Fitzmorris, 32, leaves behind his wife Jacquie, whom he married in February 2012.
