MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Tropical Depression #5 continues to churn up the waters of the Atlantic very close to the Caribbean Sea. The newest advisory as of 11am centers the tropical depression about 450 miles east of the Windward Islands moving towards the west at 20 mph. Minimum central pressure is steady at 1008 mb, which is indicative of a somewhat disorganized system.

Overnight the tropical depression lost most of it's storm activity but early morning satellite review shows new thunderstorms developing. That being said, some strengthening may occur over the next 48 hours.

On the current forecast track, TD #5 is expected to become a tropical storm, in which it would be named Ernesto, in the next few days over the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Latest models seem to agree that further strengthening past tropical storm status may be slow to occur. In order to become a hurricane, the system must sustain wind speeds of greater than 73 mph.
