WASHINGTON, D.C., (KNOE 8 News) - The U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration will award two grants to Louisiana Tech University.
The first, a $112,850 award, will go to the University Center Economic Development program to fund the third and final year of the program. The second, a $500,000 award, will support the economic development partnership between Louisiana Tech University and the Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development.
In making the announcement, U.S. Senator David Vitter said, "These competitive grants awarded to Louisiana Tech will help keep the University a first-rate academic institution and provide a long-term economic boost for the region.
The first grant will be used to help communities capitalize on economic development opportunities through applied research and technical assistance. The second grant, which is funded through the Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator challenge, will be used to provide professional support and technical assistance for local businesses through a partnership with Louisiana Tech.
