Tropical Update-August 1st

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - An area of low pressure is still showing signs of becoming better organized this morning. As of the 8am advisory from the National Hurricane Center, the system is still about 1000 miles east of the Windward Islands of the Caribbean Sea. Buoys out there are showing winds sustained around 20 mph with gusts a little higher, which is not indicative of a Tropical Depression.

Models do organize this system into a tropical storm, in which it would be named Ernesto, by this weekend. The forecast track is mainly to the west through the Caribbean Sea and then NW approaching the Yucatan Channel later in the forecast.

At this time, nothing has organized and this disturbance is still very far out. No reason to stress too much yet but rather something to keep an eye on as it makes it's way westward.
