Job creation grants announced in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C., (KNOE 8 News) - The winners of this year's Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge were announced Wednesday. The program is intended to spur job creation and economic growth in rural regions across the country.

Partnerships and initiatives in a number of states, including Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi were included in the announcement.

Those in this region and the amounts awarded are:

  • Louisiana-Arkansas: I-20 Corridor Regional Accelerator, $964,134
  • Mississippi: Mississippi State University, $1,065,000

Delta Regional Authority Federal Co-Chairman Christopher Masingill commented, "Congratulations to the winners of the Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge who will help create good jobs in rural America and build a stronger economy across the Delta and throughout the country."

This competition, which is being funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Appalachian Regional Commission, and Delta Regional Authority, was designed by the Taskforce for the Advancement of Regional Innovation Clusters and the White House Rural Council.
