On a mission to find the missing mascot

RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Peyton Huff and his buddies are on a dog hunt in the blazing heat.

"A lot of people are concerned about it really," Huff said.

The group is searching a few yards away from where the Louisiana Tech University mascot was last seen.

Tech XX or "Tech 20", nicknamed "L. T" is a 4-year-old English bulldog who's been a face of the university since he was a puppy.

Over the weekend, Tech XX camped out at the Sexton Animal Health Center about 4 miles away from campus Ruston. Patrick Sexton is the dog's main caretaker.

"We've never had anything like this happen before or any concerns about anything like this happening," Sexton said.

When going outside for a bathroom break, Tech XX never needed to be locked inside a cage or into a confined space because he never wanted to stay outside in this triple digit heat.

"He's been a companion for 4 years now, and he's not around, so it definitely leaves a little bit of a void there," Sexton said.

Locals are pointing the finger at a dog napper. They believe it was a thief hoping to make big bucks from selling the English bulldog. The dog has a microchip to prevent a criminal from going too far. And there's a reward out for his safe return.

"Whoever brings him in, I'm handing them $2,000 and they're walking out the door."

The caretaker says this isn't a case of who let the dog out? The main question is: Who took the dog?

English bull dogs typically carry a hefty price tag. In some cases $2,000 for this type of animal.
