BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The State Department of Education has released its projections on which schools in Louisiana will fall below the target grade of 75 this year.

In the release the Press Secretary for the Department, Barry Landry, did say that more schools are achieving higher academic standards today compared to last year.

According to preliminary results, 87% of schools met the minimum threshold of academic performance, while 13% of schools didn't meet the threshold.  In 2012, 180 schools earned a preliminary School Performance Score below 75, compared to the 264 schools below 75 in 2011. In 1999, 661 schools earned a School Performance Score below 75.  Today, the number of schools performing below the 75 point threshold is 180 – a drop of nearly 75% since the accountability system was first implemented.

However, the list of schools with an F grade is lengthy-180 of them--and includes these in the North Eastern Parishes:

Ruston Elementary, Madison Middle School, Tallulah Elementary, Christian Acres Alternative School, Morehouse Alternative School. In Monroe, Carroll Junior High, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, and Sherrouse School were included.

A number of other schools around the state were also included in the list of those receiving an F grade, 24 of them in Caddo Parish alone.
