WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The movie theater massacre in Colorado has many people concerned about their safety. Susan Medina, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has told several national news sources gun dealers submitted close to 3,000 requests for state background checks, in the three days after the July 20th shooting.

Medina says that's up 43% from 3 days prior to the shooting.

TP Outdoors workers have told me since the movie theater massacre in Colorado things have picked up.

Sporting Goods Manager James Douglas says they've seen an increase in gun sales and interest in the conceal and carry permit. They've even had people interested who haven't considered carrying a gun until the past 5 days.

They say people are starting to believe they need to protect themselves and as long as they have proper training it could save a life.

"a gun can be something that you need to respect but a gun can also be fun, we have a gun range and it's fun to shoot and guns save lives as well so it is something to consider, and it's not for everybody," Douglas stated.

If you have any questions about getting a firearm for the first time, or about the conceal and carry permit class you can contact the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.
