MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union along with their sponsors were at KNOE on Friday, hoping to collect school supplies for 400 needy students in 55 schools.
With 64% of students in Ouachita Parish on free or reduced lunches, not all parents can afford everything on a school supply list - putting the burden on teachers to fill the gaps. That's why for an 8th year in a row, the Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union is holding a school supply drive Friday, but they are not meeting their goal quite yet.
"We're sitting around $2,000.00 right now, so we're $7,000.00 from where we need to be, we still have two weeks though, we still have a good two week push we can do."
You can still make monetary donations at any Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union until August 1.
