MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Late Thursday (July 26, 2012) a West Monroe man was killed in a collision involving two semi trucks and his car.
According to the preliminary report from La. State Police Troop G, a 2002 Freight Liner driven by 51-year-old Remigio Alvarez of Torrence, CA was traveling east on Interstate 20, when he struck a 2004 Ford F-250 driven by 68-year old William Kitchens of West Monroe from the rear. Upon impact, the F-250 was then pushed forward into a 2003 Freight Liner driven by 46-year old Cardona Eusebio of Mareno Valley, CA.
Kitchens was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner's office.
Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. Alvarez was cited for careless operation. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge motorists to remain vigilant while driving and remember that crashes are unexpected events. By taking precautionary steps including never driving while distracted or impaired and always obeying the laws of the road, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved in a crash.
