MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe is home to the 2nd annual Greater Louisiana Baptist Convention this week.
Youth groups from across the state joined together for fellowship, fun, and for the greater good. The children joined efforts to serve plate lunches to our community's homeless.
"We're geared to teach and train young people," says GLBC Youth Director Sam Loftin, "Not only to teach them the word of god, but how to put it into practice and just how to live it in their everyday lives."
The Monroe Salvation Army Shelter hosts about 15 men, women, and children every night. They say events like the youth ministries are very important to our area.
Loftin believes this isn't just about serving others, but about teaching kids that together, they can do anything.
"You see the interest that our young people have and they're excited about it, and it really gives them a good sense and a good feel for themselves, and for what they can do in their community," says Loftin.
The event was a great success with over 200 local youth helping the community one plate at a time. Next year the convention will be held in South Louisiana.
