MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana Delta Community College has received funding for its literacy program.

The school's literacy program, Strategies to Empower People, was awarded funding through the Department of Children and Family Services and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families fund.

The STEP program provides workplace literacy and technical skills training to referred STEP clients with the expectation that those students would enroll in the college.

Alvina Thomas, LA Delta's Interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, said one of the great benefits of the program is that it helps student be able to pay for school.

The nearly $400,000 grant ($396,819.00), was awarded to all eight LA Delta campuses in Bastrop, Farmerville, Lake Providence, Monroe, Ruston, Tallulah, West Monroe and Winnsboro, and is extended to the colleges from July 1 through June 30, 2013.
