No city police in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A nine man layoff in the Jonesboro Police Department has left only 5 employees in the office, and only one in a paid position.

Jackson Parish Sheriff's Department is trying to make up for the city's loss, but Sheriff Andy Brown plans to send the city a bill for his department's efforts.

Mayor Leslie Thompson says that sending the town a bill isn't a problem, despite the towns on-going financial struggles.

"No matter what the cost would be it wouldn't come no where near what we were having to pay to duplicate those services," says Thompson, "it'd be a tremendous savings to the town no matter what it is."
