MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- We're able to give you the first images of a new van at Glenwood Regional Medical center that is helping save lives. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place this morning to introduce the "Angio Screen Mobile Screening Coach."
It's basically a van that offers easy to take and painless screenings. The screenings will be able to detect the risk of heart disease, strokes, and other illnesses.
"It's important and a great resource for the community because it identifies a problem before it becomes life threatening, you know strokes are the number three killer in the country and most people don't even know they have it until it's too late." said Dr. Harry Donias, a cardiovascular surgeon.
"But a quick 10 minute examination, painless, non invasive examination, we can see what your stroke risk is." said Dr. Donias.
Glenwood Regional Medical Center CEO Ronald Elder said there is a lot of people in the community who have no idea what their health or whether they do or don't have potential cardiovascular disease or heart disease or a potential aneurysm.
"Those are silent killers they don't really have symptoms, so most people can live their daily lives and not know. By doing the screenings, it gives them a moment in time where they can look at their circulatory system and determine whether they have any issues or not that may be life threatening." said CEO of Glenwood Regional Medical Center, Ronald Elder.
The van will offer services all across Northeast Louisiana.
