MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe business, KMS uniforms, is closed after owing the city thousands in back taxes. The store owner is speaking out about the way the city handled the situation.

Signs on the door of KMS Uniform say this business is closed after judge ordered the store to close last week. The business owes the City of Monroe over $300,000.00 in taxes and penalties.

A city spokesman told us after giving the business several years to catch up, they had exhausted all of their chances. Now the city says the company is blasting the city through social media for taking legal action against the business.

Store owner Krista Morgan says what the city is saying isn't true. "They have not given me any chances, as far as giving me financial payment arrangements, have I been late on my sales taxes at times? Yes I'll be the first to admit it." said Morgan.

"We have very slow times in this business and during those slow times it is very hard to make ends meet. But I always get the sales taxes done and caught up, every time, they are caught up right now. But the city is going to tell me or tell y'all that they have done everything possible to keep me in business and that is actually no way possible the truth." she said.

Morgan says the store will re-open in time for the school year to start but under new owners.

Right now KMS uniform's phone is disconnected, but the store owner says she is working to fix that problem so customers can call the store with questions.
